Cebu offers rice, vitamins to vaccinees during 3-day nat'l vax drive

CEBU CITY — The province of Cebu will be giving out incentives to those who will participate in the upcoming National Vaccination Days.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia issued a memorandum on November 24 that directed the mayors and barangay captains of the province's 44 towns and six component cities to encourage their
constituents to have themselves vaccinated during the three-day National Vaccination Days.

Garcia said the provincial government will be shouldering the incentives that will be given away.

Garcia's memo stated that the provincial government will be giving two kilos of rice and one month’s supply of supplementary medicines such as Vitamin C and Vitamin B Complex for every newly vaccinated individual.

“The incentives shall be provided until supplies last,” read a portion of Garcia’s memo

The National COVID-19 Vaccination Days will be held from November 29 to December 1.

The national campaign drive looks to vaccinate 15 million Filipinos against the deadly virus.

As of November 23, 563,317 residents in Cebu province are already vaccinated based on the data of the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC).

The VVOC data showed that 1.3 million individuals in the entire island of Cebu - which includes those from the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, and Mandaue - are already fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

In Cebu City, preparations are also ongoing as the city looks to vaccinate 96,000 residents during the massive inoculation drive.

Authorities here are looking to vaccinate 3.5 to 3.6 million residents to achieve herd immunity in Cebu island.
