Mayor Ponce says non-residents can get booster shots in Pateros

Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce III said the municipal government has started giving COVID-19 booster shots to senior citizens (A2 priority group) and persons with comorbidities (A3), and non-residents can avail of the medical service.

The municipal government began administering booster shots to A2 and A3 priority groups on Nov. 22.

Ponce said non-residents who got their first and second doses in Pateros will be given their booster shots in the municipality.

“If you are a non-resident but you were vaccinated with the first and second doses here, definitely we will give you a booster. This means you will be given a booster shot here unless you choose to receive it in your area,” said Ponce in a live broadcast on Facebook on Nov. 23. They must bring their vaccination booklet to show their record.

In addition, according to the mayor, Pateros residents who got their primary vaccine in another local government unit or abroad can get their booster shots in the municipality.

“It will be allowed provided that you are a Pateros resident and you can bring your vaccination record from where you got your first and second doses,” he said.

They need to text their name, the place and date of their first and second doses and cell phone number to 09228549974 for their schedule.

The Department of Health (DOH) earlier announced that after healthcare workers, people under A2 and those immunocompromised A3 only will be given booster shots and third dose starting Nov. 22.

Ponce reminded senior citizens and persons with comorbidities that based on DOH guidelines, booster shots will be given at least six months after getting their second dose Sinovac Life Sciences’ CoronaVac, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Sputnik V, and at least three months for those who got the single-shot Janssen vaccine.

For immunocompromised A3, a third dose will be administered to those with immunodeficiency state, people living with HIV (human immunodeficiency virus), active cancer or malignancy, transplant patients and patients under immunosuppressive treatments.

Immunocompromised is someone who has a “weakened immune system,” according to the US National Cancer Institute.

The booster shot brand to be given will depend on the primary vaccine that a person received. Those who got CoronaVac will get CoronaVac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Moderna as their booster shot.

For Pfizer-BioNTech, it is Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca or Moderna, and for AstraZeneca, it is be AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, or Moderna,

For Moderna, it is Moderna, AstraZeneca or Pfizer-BioNTech, and for Sputnik V, the recommended is AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, or Moderna.

For the Janssen vaccine, the recommended booster is AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, or Moderna.
