Arnold 'Igan' Clavio tells SMS scammers: 'Maayos naman po ako dito sa GMA'

Even popular Kapuso broadcaster and television host Arnold "Igan" Clavio is not spared by scammers offering him jobs through text messages.

"In demand pala ako!" Clavio jokingly told co-anchor Weng Salvacion during their morning radio show "One on One: Walang Personalan" on DzBB on Nov. 24.

Arnold told Weng he has been receiving job offers with daily earnings from P3,000 to P10,000 through these scammed text messages.

"Hello scammers. Maayos naman po ako dito sa GMA. Okay naman kami ni Weng dito sa DzBB. Hindi na ninyo kami kailangan i-text," said Arnold, who has been receiving job offers for one week now.

Arnold and Weng initially believe that their personal data are being sold to big-time scammers. They have a hunch that the personal data were stolen from establishments where customers sign for contract-tracing purposes.

In an interview on DzBB, NTC Deputy Director Engr. Edgardo Cabarios told the radio show that the personal data were indeed stolen.

However, Cabarios said there is still no proof that the personal data were taken from contract-tracing details of establishments.

Cabarios said that the best thing to do is ignore or block these text messages.

"Once the link is opened, chances are the data are stolen. So just ignore these text messages. Kumikita sila kapag may pumupunta sa link nila. So kung walang papansin sa mga text nila, wala naman silang kikitain," the NTC official said.

Cabarios also said that the NTC traces the scammed messages from prepaid accounts.
