The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has started administering booster shots to at least 1,163 of its frontliners under the A1 category, a military official disclosed Wednesday, Nov. 24.

Captain Rhey Mallorca, assistant public information officer of the AFP Health Service Command (HSC), said among those vaccinated with booster shots were 284 officers and 400 enlisted personnel from the Philippine Army (PA), Philippine Navy (PN), Philippine Air Force (PAF), and Tactical Administrative Service (TAS).
There were also 394 civilian human resources and 85 civilian personnel who got their booster doses.
The vaccination has so far covered medical doctors, nurses, nursing attendants, and other allied medical professionals as well as janitors, and food service employees under the Health Service Command.

The AFP Health Service Command started administering the first round of booster shots to its fully vaccinated healthcare personnel on Tuesday at the V. Luna Medical Center in Quezon City.
“This strategy is a first priority action because healthcare workers are a vulnerable group due to their constant exposure to COVID-19 cases,” the Health Service Command said.
The vaccinated personnel were all given with Pfizer vaccine under a heterologous vaccination since they had Sinovac jabs during their primary series (first two dose) back in March. Booster doses can only be given to individuals who were fully vaccinated for at least six months.

Meanwhile, AFP personnel under the A1 priority who were fully vaccinated from April to May will be available for booster vaccination from December 1 to 3, the Command said.
After the healthcare workers, the Health Service Command will start giving booster doses to immunocompromised personnel and individuals aged 18 to 60 with accompanying co-morbidities.
“The AFPHSC supports this health program to fully combat the COVID-19 pandemic, thereby, maintaining its consistency as the people’s partner in promoting good health,” the Health Service Command noted.
