20 PCG-PMMA students enter scholarship program

A total of 20 students took their oath as they signed for scholarships in the joint Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) project during the 12th PCG–PMMA Cadetship and Scholarship Program on Wednesday, Nov. 24.

PCG Deputy Commandant for Administration, CG Vice Admiral Oscar C. Endona welcomed the 20 scholars composed of 13 men and seven women as part of the fourth cadet class in a ceremomy at the PCG national headquarters in Port Area, Manila.

Endona encouraged the 20 students to focus on their studies since they would be soon facing different things in this evolving maritime challenges like climate change, water pollution, piracy, terrorism and smuggling.

“To our newly appointed PCG-PMMA cadets, you are presented with a rare opportunity today to be a better version of yourself,” said Endona.

“Become a leader of a noble institution, and be of service to the nation: Do not waste it.”

“The skills and knowledge you will gain from the PMMA will be your foundation and guide as you perform your duties and responsibilities as Coast Guard officers.”

The 20 students will enter the academy for a four-year education, and Endona is optimistic they will be ready for the challenges once they become members of the Coast Guard

“I am confident the PMMA will help develop not just your knowledge and skills, but also your mindset and character. In four years, you should be ready to take that responsibility of serving the country as Coast Guardians,” added Endona.
