PH Red Cross vaccinates 1000 PDLs in Laguna

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has vaccinated a total of 1000 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Laguna Provincial Jail, the organization said on Monday, Nov. 22.

In a statement, PRC said that it was made possible through the "Bakuna" Bus provided by Victory Liner to vaccinate the PDLs on Nov. 18.

As of November 19, 2021, the PRC Laguna Chapter said that it has administered 21,958 doses. PRC mentioned that its volunteers and staff have been vaccinating residents around Laguna since Aug. 18 in their two Bakuna Buses provided by Victory Liner and one Bakuna Center in the Light Industry Science Park II (LSPI II), Barangay Real, Calamba City targeting the COVID-19 priority group A4 or essential workers.

PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon hopes that the PRC will be able to help more people ease their worries and emphasized the mission of the Red Cross.

"Our goal is to provide hope for the most vulnerable whom we serve without discrimination. Regardless of the current challenges that we are facing, we will continue to strengthen our response as we want our inmates to be safer despite the pandemic," he said.

On the other hand, the PRC also deployed its Bakuna Bus to Negros Occidental and vaccinated 303 individuals belonging to the A3-A4 priority group on Nov. 21.

PRC said that Gordon ordered the deployment of the Bakuna Bus in support of the different local government units (LGU) nationwide to protect the residents from COVID-19.

“Kailangan mabilis tayo sa pag aksyon lalo na papalapit na ang pasko. Hatid ng Philippine Red Cross ay isang ligtas na pasko sa pamamagitan ng pagbabakuna. Kaya patuloy ang Philippine Red Cross sa pagbabakuna gamit ang 17 Bakuna Buses at 25 Bakuna Centers nationwide (We have to quick in making actions now that Christmas is near. PRC delivers a safe Christmas through vaccination. That is why it continues to vaccinate through its 17 Bakuna Buses and 25 Bakuna Centers),” he said.

PRC stated that its Negros Occidental Chapter continuously supports the LGU in its back-to-back vaccination roll-out at Gaisano City Mall and Brgy 14, Victorias City. PRC Silay City Branch also conducted a handwashing demonstration and hot meals distribution to 100 children at Purok Sawmill, Brgy Mambulak, Silay City, to intensify PRC’s fight against COVID-19.

Meanwhile, last Nov. 18 and 19, the PRC Laguna Chapter in partnership with the local government, and Gardenia Philippines also deployed its "Hot Meals on Wheels" food truck to different barangays and schools for a feeding program as part of National Children's Month 2021. The humanitarian organization was able to provide bread and hot soup to 250 children as part of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).
