The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) ordered telecommunications companies to warn their subscribers on scam messages offering fake jobs.

(NTC / MANILA BULLETIN)

In a memo dated Nov. 19, NTC ordered Digitel Mobile Philippines, Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, and Dito Telecommunity Corporation to send text blasts to users containing the message:

"BABALA! Huwag maniwala sa text na diumano'y nag-aalok ng trabaho. Huwag po magbigay ng persnal na impormasyon. Ito po ay isang scam (WARNING! Don't believe text messages supposedly offering jobs. Don't give your personal information. This is a scam)."

The telcos are given until Dec. 14 to submit their compliance report on the directive to the Office of the Commissioner.

Meanwhile, the National Privacy Commission on Tuesday, Nov. 23, said it also summoned the data protection officers of Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, Dito Telecommunity, Shopee, and several banks to report on their spam prevention measures and further steps to combat the spate of scam text messages.
