First trainset for PNR Clark arrives in PH from Japan
The first trainset for the Philippine National Railways (PNR) Clark Project has arrived in the country, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced.

The eight-car trainset for the PNR Clark Phase 1, which was procured by the DOTr from the Japan Transport Engineering Company and Sumitomo Corporation, already arrived at the Port of Manila last Sunday, Nov. 21.
According to the DOTr, the new trainset is scheduled to be delivered to the PNR Malanday Depot in Valenzuela next month after customs clearances for the shipment.
The new trainset departed from Yokohama Port last Nov. 13 after passing the Factory Acceptance Test at the J-TREC Factory in Japan to ensure its compliance with various international standards.
Meanwhile, the second trainset for the project is expected to be delivered to the Philippines by the second quarter of 2022, the DOTr added.
The 38-kilometer PNR Clark Phase 1 is one of three parts of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) Project (Malolos-Tutuban) of the DOTr which aims to connect Central Luzon, Metro Manila, and CALABARZON by train.
Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the PNR North 1 has 10 stations which will cut across the cities of Manila, Caloocan, Valenzuela and the municipalities of Meycuayan, Marilao, Bocaue, Balagtas, Guiguinto and Malolos in Bulacan.
Once completed, the project is expected to serve 300,000 passengers daily and will reduce travel time from Malolos, Bulacan to Tutuban in Manila from 1.5 hours to just 35 minutes.
