Caloocan City gov't inks MOA with foodpanda on 'BuyAnihan' livelihood project
The Caloocan City government, in partnership with foodpanda and Philippine Seven, launched on Tuesday, Nov.23, the "BuyAnihan Palengke" livelihood program that aims to provide a source of income to workers who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic, reformed drug dependents, and graduates of several Diocese of Caloocan programs.

Caloocan City Rep. Dale “Along” Malapitan and lawyer Bok Labastilla, head of the Caloocan Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CADAO), signed the Memorandum of Agreement for BuyAnihan Palengke with Daniel Marogy, foodpanda PH managing director, and Victor Paterno, Philippine Seven CEO.
“We want to build their confidence and lead them towards the path of financial independence,” Marogy said.

"Maraming salamat sa ating mga naging partners sa programang ito.. Isa sa ating mga recovery programs dito sa ating lungsod at pangarap natin na gawin ay yung madagdagan ang mga nagtitiwalang negosyante at madagdagan ang trabaho para sa ating mga mamayan. para muling maiahon natin ang ating lungsod sa krisis na ating kinakaharap (We want to thank our partners in this program. One of our recovery programs here in our city, and our dream too, is to increase the number of entrepreneurs who will repose their trust on these people and increase employment opportunities for them so that we can lift the city out of the crisis brought about by the pandemic)," Malapitan said during the MOA signing.
The "Buyanihan Palengke" aims to turn the city's beneficiaries into resellers of fresh products sourced from farms that will be transported to different distribution centers in the city.

Under the MOA, foodpanda will provide seed capital to the beneficiaries to jumpstart their reselling business while 7-11 will use its trucks to pick up fruits and vegetables directly from the farms and deliver them to BuyAnihan Palengke hubs in Caloocan City.
The program was initiated by the Diocese of Caloocan and CADAO, with support from foodpanda and 7-11 Philippines.
Local government units (LGU) in Metro Manila and non-government organizations are also being tapped to help in its implementation in the region.
Aside from the graduates of the CADAO Community Rehabilitation and Research Out-Patient Treatment and Training System(CARROTS), the program also targets to help displaced Overseas Filipino Workers, delivery riders, residents who lost their jobs, out-of-school youth, and single mothers.
They will be trained as community micro-sellers with skills in online selling and managing their community reseller hubs.
BuyAnihan Palengke originated from Salubong ng Carrots Atbp, an aftercare program for reformed drug dependents of the Caloocan City diocese.
