'Amihan' prevails over northern, Central Luzon; easterlies affects rest of PH -- PAGASA

Two weather systems--namely the northeast monsoon and easterlies--are currently affecting the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday morning, Nov. 23.

In the next 24 hours, the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," is expected to bring cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes, Babuyan Island, Cagayan, and Isabela.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains may also prevail over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Meanwhile, mostly fair weather conditions may persist across the rest of the country due to the prevalence of easterlies or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

PAGASA said that Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The State weather bureau, however, warned that severe thunderstorm activities may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.

Moreover, a gale warning was in effect as of Tuesday morning due to strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon.

Winds associated with the northeast monsoon may bring rough to very rough seas over the seaboards of northern Luzon, particularly over the seas of Batanes, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small seacrafts to prevent from setting sail into these seas while larger sea vessels should watch out for big waves.

Weather specialist Grace Castañeda said there is no low pressure area or LPA inside the country's area of responsibility, based on the PAGASA's latest forecast.
