LTG turns over upgraded high performance data center to University of the Philippines

The Lucio Tan Group, Inc., led by its President and COO Michael Tan turned over to the University of the Philippines (UP) an upgraded high performance data center fully equipped with mega servers and other hardware components.

From 10 gigabit capacity, UP’s computing facility was upgraded to 400 giga bit. “I truly hope that this Core Computational Facility or 'UP Data Commons' further strengthens the capacity of the University as a leading research institution in the Philippines dedicated to the science of high performance computing and computing-related research activities towards scientific and engineering breakthroughs, said Tan during the turnover ceremonies on November 19, 2021.

On hand to accept the high performance data center were UP President Atty. Danilo Concepcion, UP Chancellor Dr. Fidel R. Nemenzo and UP College of Science Dean Prof. Giovanni A. Tapang.

The upgraded facility could serve the whole UP Diliman campus.

Tan said this Core Computational Facility or 'UP Data Commons' further strengthens the capacity of the University as a leading research institution in the Philippines dedicated to the science of high performance computing and computing-related research activities towards scientific and engineering breakthroughs.

“I also hope that this will further encourage innovation and substantially increase the number of research and development workers at the same time increase public and private research and development spending,” he said.

“It is an honor for the LT Group and our affiliate companies to be able to associate with the University's endeavor to accelerate innovation and provide quality education as we both recognize that innovation is a complex matter and turning ideas and strategies into action is a formidable challenge,” Tan added.
