From court administrator to SC justice: OCA personnel give Marquez a send-off

Heartwarning send-off for Associate Justice Jose Midas P. Marquez

Officials and employees of the Office of the Court Administrator (OCA) of the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday, Nov. 22, gave newly appointed SC Associate Justice Jose Midas P. Marquez a send-off at the SC grounds on Padre Faura Street in Ermita, Manila.

Marquez was head of OCA for 11 years before his promotion as SC associate justice, a post he took over from Associate Justice Edgardo L. Delos Santos who retired last June 30.

“After 30 years working here in the Supreme Court, I get my appointment as an Associate Justice.... It was not easy but I’m sure, it would have been much more difficult if it were not for all of you. You made my life as Court Administrator much easier,” Justice Marquez said as he thanked OCA officials and employees.

With his promotion, Deputy Court Administrator Raul B. Villanueva has been designated by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo as officer-in-charge. OCA supervises for the SC all lower courts in the country.

Marquez urged OCA officials and employees to support whoever will be appointed court administrator.

Last Monday, Nov. 15, Marquez took his oath before Chief Justice Gesmundo and immediately assumed his new post. His appointment completed the membership in the SC composed of 15 justices. He has been designated member of the SC’s third division.

He has been with the SC in various capacities since 1991. As associate justice, he is expected to serve his post until 2036 when he turns 70, the retirement age for members of the judiciary.
