Opposition senatorial aspirants Jose Manuel 'Chel' Diokno and Teodoro 'Teddy' Baguilat Jr. visited San Pedro and Los Baños in Laguna province over the weekend to hold sectoral consultations, saying that these are important in effectively addressing the various concerns faced by Filipinos.

The two aspiring senators running under the ticket of Vice President Leni Robredo went to San Pedro, Laguna Districts 1, 2, 3, and 4 to listen to the grievances of different sectors.
“For me, sobrang mahalaga ang konsultasyon at pakikinig sa bawat sektor. Nalalaman natin kung ano ang kanilang mga hinaing upang mas maintindihan ang konteksto ng mga isyu at nang matugunan ang mga ito sa pinakaepektibong paraan (consultation and listening to every sector are very important. We will know what their concerns are to better understand the context of the issues and to address them in the most effective way),” Diokno, a human rights lawyer, said in a Facebook post.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng aking nakausap ngayon para sa pagkakataong maipakilala ko ang aking sarili, mapakinggan ang inyong mga kwento, and marinig ang inyong mga hinaing. Kayo ang inspirasyon ko (I am thankful to everyone who I talked with so I can introduce myself and listen to your stories, and hear your grievances. You are my inspiration)!,” he added.

Baguilat also posted a photo of him and Diokno at City Hall of San Pedro, Laguna where they held discussions with representatives of farmers, LGBT+ seniors, workers, barangay health workers, and women.
“Consultation and participation are key to good lawmaking and a healthy democracy,” the former lawmaker said.

After the consultations in San Pedro, the two senatorial aspirants went to the University of the Philippines in Los Baños where Diokno was a keynote speaker in a paralegal training for young human rights defenders.
“Nakakatuwa na maraming mga kabataan ang handang tumulong sa mga kababayan nating dehado sa batas (I’m glad to know that there are many youth who are ready to help our fellowmen who are being disadvantaged by the law),” Diokno said.
The senatorial aspirant, who also run but lost in the 2019 midterm elections, thanked Mayor Baby Cataquiz, Councilor Burns Olivares, Youth Movement Against Tyranny Southern Tagalog (YMAT ST), and Youth Advocates for Peace with Justice UPLB (YAPJUST UPLB) for initiating the activities and for organizing the events.
