Team Secret's all-Filipino Valorant Team is set to get its baptism of fire when it collides against Gambit Esports from the CIS region in its opening match in the Valorant Champions 2021 in Berlin, Germany which will kick off Dec. 1.
Team Secret, which acquired the entire Bren Esports roster in September, will take on the titlists of the Valorant Champions Tour Stage 3 -Berlin – the same event which the Filipinos missed due to their failure to acquire the necessary travel requirements.
When Jessie “JessieVash” Cuyco, Jayvee “DubsteP” Paguirigan, Jim “BORKUM” Timbreza, Kevin “Dispenser” Te and Riley “Witz” Go all signed with Team Secret, the VCT points which they collected under Bren’s banner got carried over after their transfer.
That allowed the Filipinos to still qualify to the world meet after garnering enough VCT points despite missing VCT 3.
Team Secret and Gambit were drawn in Group C together with Team Vikings from Brazil and Crazy Racoons from Japan in Group C.
Group stage will be in a double-elimination format which means the teams need to win twice to advance to the knockout stages and lose twice to get eliminated in the tournament as only the top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout rounds. Every match will be in a best-of-three affair.
The Team Secret and Gambit clash will happen on Dec 2 while the Group C winners’ and losers’ match will be on Dec 5. The decider match on the other hand is set on Dec. 8
Acend, Team Envy, Keyd Stars, and TS’ fellow SEA representative X10 Crit comprises Group A while Sentinels, KRU Esports, Team Liquid, and Furia Esports make up the Group B. Group D features Vision Strikers, Fnatic, Full Sense, and Cloud9 Blue.
Eight squads will be battling it out in the best-of-three quarterfinals with the winners getting the ticket to the semifinals which will also be in a best-of-three affair. Grand Finals meanwhile will be a best-of-five showdown with the winner getting the lion’s share of the 1,000,000 USD cash prize pool.
