PH Red Cross deploys tanker to Manila residents affected by water shortage

Several areas in Manila who grappled with the water shortages over the weekend were assisted by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) who dispatched its water tanker that distributed 40,000 liters of potable water to various barangays.

"Kada araw, bawat isang tao kailangan ng 20 hanggang 50 litro ng malinis, ligtas na tubig para sa pag-inom, pagluluto, at simpleng pagpapanatili ng kanilang sarili na malinis ang kailangan (Everyday each person requires 20 up to 50 liters of clean, and safe water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning)," PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon said.

PRC's water tanker first arrived in Brgy. 870 in the Pandacan District of Manila, unloading 20,000 liters of clean water to the more than 3,000 residents of the area on Saturday, October 30.

The following day, Sunday, October 31, PRC's water tankers unloaded another 20,000 liters of potable water to more than 3,000 citizens of barangays 826 and 872, still both in Manila's Pandacan District.

PRC deployed 1 water tanker manned by seven emergency response unit personnel for the two-day operation.

Many barangays were affected after West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) implemented a water service interruption as part of a pipe realignment project it is conducting to make way for the flood control project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The DPWH project caused water service interruptions in parts of Las Piñas, Makati, Manila, Parañaque, Pasay, and Cavite from October 29, 2021 to November 1, 2021.
