Magnitude 4.1 quake jolts Negros Occidental -- Phivolcs

An earthquake measuring 4.1-magnitude jolted Negros Occidental shortly before Tuesday noon, Nov. 2, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The tremor that struck at 11:58 a.m. originated 18 kilometers northwest of Sipalay City in Negros Occidental.

Phivolcs said the 4.1-magnitude quake was strongly felt at Intensity V in Sipalay City and Cauayan City, Negros Occidental.

It was moderately strong at Intensity IV in Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.

Meanwhile, it was weak at Intensity III in Iloilo City, Jordan in Guimaras, Bayawan City in Negros Oriental, and Bago City in Negros Occidental.

It was slightly felt at Intensity II in La Carlota City and Bacolod City while it was scarcely perceptible at Intensity I in Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it noted that damage to property or aftershocks due to this earthquake is not expected.
