With the Holiday Season coming, the Department of Agriculture has expressed confidence in having enough food supply for consumers.
DA Undersecretary Ariel Cayanan said that there is no reason to worry regarding supply, as consumers normally buy more during the week between Christmas Day and the New Year celebration.
“To sum it all, from rice, fish, pork, broiler and on vegetables including high value, we have sufficient supply,” said Cayanan, DA’s undersecretary for operations, during an online press briefing Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Last month, the department reported loss and damages brought by tropical storm ‘Maring’ amounting to P2.1 billion, majority of which were agricultural products of rice and corn.
Affected areas at that time were regions 1, 2, 3, 4-B, 5, 6 and 12, as well as the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
The DA, headed by Secretary William Dar, is coordinating with officials from PAGASA, or the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration with regards to tropical storm or typhoon.
In a recent meeting, Cayanan said they were informed of six more typhoons for the rest of the year.
The department, he said, is ready.
“Of course we’ll be expecting, according to PAGASA, we’ll be expecting six more tropical storms. But with the outlook that we have, we still have a good estimate of the supply,” said Cayanan.
