TACLOBAN CITY - A total of 29 poor families received their early Christmas gifts in the form of new houses built for them by police officers in Samar province on Thursday (November 18).
The houses were constructed under the "Pangarap na Bahay, Pulis ang Aalalay, Pamayanan ay Kaagapay Project" of the Samar Police.
The project was launched on August 30, 2021 and initiated by then Samar Police Provincial Director Col. Glenn Oliver Cinco.
"Based on statistics, a lot of children are abused at home, which gave me an idea to provide a decent home for them," he shared.
This prompted Cinco to seek help from private and government agencies to build the houses which cost around P75,000 each. They were able to raise a total of P2.1 million.
With the assistance of the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources for lumber, the housing units were turned over by Col. Peter Limbauan, the new provincial director, the Samar PPO Headquarters, 1st and 2nd Samar Provincial Mobile Force Companies, Calbayog and Catbalogan City Police Stations, and 24 municipal police stations.
Brig. Gen. Rommel Cabagnot, Regional Director, lauded the initiative citing that they are not only leading into the attainment of the organization’s mission and vision but also taking good care of the community they are serving.
"I hope this best practice will be replicated in other provinces. Let us help each other to achieve a compassionate, peaceful, and safer place to live in,” Cabagnot said.
