The National Privacy Commission (NPC) will be holding a free online summit on Thursday, Nov. 25, to push for online safety and children’s privacy rights in the digital age, the organization announced on its official page.
The Annual Young Privacy Advocates Summit, "Kabataang Digital: Matalino, Mapagmatyag, at Mapanuri," is open for students, parents, and educators, said the NPC.
"Sa online event na ito, kayong mga kabataan ang partners namin in advocating online safety, digital citizenship, and children’s data privacy rights to their fellow youth. S’yempre, kasama rin ang iba pa naming partners in data privacy para gabayang maging tunay na Kabataang Digital ang kabataang Pilipino (In this online event, we will be partnering with children and youth in advocating online safety, and children’s data privacy rights to their fellow youth. Of course, we will be including the parents as well as our other partners in data privacy to guide the children in becoming a true Digital Youth)," it explained.
NPC defines "kabataang digital" as someone who is often online with their gadgets or scrolling on social media.
"Dahil gusto namin na protektado ang data privacy niyong mga kabataan, patuloy naming isinusulong ang isang ligas na online environment sa pamamagitan ng Kabataang Digital. (Because we wanted to ensure that the youth’s data privacy is protected, we will continuously promote a safe online environment through Digital Youth)," it said.
The Young Privacy Advocates Summit will cover the Data Privacy Act for kids, internet safety, online learning, appropriate media content, digital citizenship, and social media in general.
Upon registration, participants will be given the chance to choose between two sessions--kids and teen.
Kids Session covers the morning period and is meant for children, Grades 1-6, and their guardians or teachers who are possibly attending with them for the event.
"Since our goal is to provide basic knowledge and information, content for this session is easy to understand and in layman’s terms so that both our young and adult audience can easily understand it. The language will be mainly Filipino," the NPC said.
Meanwhile, the Teens Session will be held in the afternoon and is meant for learners, from junior high school to college.
The discussions will revolve around more serious topics on data privacy and will also have the interactive session through a roundtable discussion.
The NPC urged participants to pre-register through https://forms.office.com/r/NGJ8KZSRvs. Pre-registration is open until Nov. 21. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
