Drake Ibay's counsel on Tony Labrusca being allegedly out on bail: 'How could it be?'
By Neil Ramos

“Something's wrong.”
This is what Atty. Regie Tongol said about Atty. Joji Alonso’s recent statement regarding her client, actor Tony Labrusca, having supposedly posted bail in relation to the act of lasciviousness complaint filed against him.
“How could it be? Bail is only possible if there is a warrant of arrest,” added Tongol. “Matagal ang proseso niyan usually and maraming requirements. Paano nangyari ito?”
Tongol said they were actually surprised learning about it on the news.
“Unang reaksyon ko? Disbelief. Then malaking tawa. Kasi, it’s unusual. But what we did, we quickly asked for a copy of the warrant of arrest. Kasi requirement yun e. Hindi kami nabigyan. We were told this is because basically wala pang na-issue ang korte. So, again, paano nakapag bail ang kliyente niya?”
Tongol said they also asked for a copy of the Motion of Reconsideration that Alonso said they also supposedly filed in questioning the credence of the case but there was none.
Tongol made clear he is not out to disparage Alonso or question her motive in issuing such information. He simply wants the public to know that her statement veered far from the truth.
“Ang claims ni Atty. Joji, I don’t know. It’s impossible. I’m not casting doubt on her. I don’t know her motivation but as a lawyer we have a responsibility: Na ipakita sa publiko na patas ang batas. Na naaayon sa katotohanan ang sinasabi mo. It’s an ethical issue.”
“And we are calling it out because we believe that the only way for injustice to prevail is if you don’t point it out. Kasi, ito, kung totoo man ang sinabi niya, ganun din ba ang experience ng ibang tao? Ang bilis masyado. Parang may something. May special consideration ba dahil public figure ang kliyente niya? Paano ang ordinaryong mamamayan?”
Ibay on his part shared, “I was disappointed, disgusted with what Atty. Joji did. There’s a victim here, kami. And parang sinampal niya kami dito. We have suffered enough. Now putting out misleading facts? Discrediting us? Disgusting.”
Tongol added: “Hindi naming gusting sirain si Tony. We only want recognition of what happened. Or a sincere apology. They could have done that but they didn’t. Ngayon, nadagdagan pa ang trauma ng client ko.”
