Heart Evangelista: New primetime queen

With the huge success of GMA-7’s teleserye “I Left My Heart In Sorsogon” (ILMHIS) when it premiered on Nov. 15, there is no doubt that Heart Evangelista is now the reigning ‘queen.’

Whoever imagined that she can dislodge Coco Martin’s “Ang Probinsyano,” which is lording it all over as No. 1 teleserye for several years. Well, it happened.

According to Nielsen Philippines, the pilot episode of ILMHIS has more viewers than “Ang Probinsyano, which is airing at the same time as Heart’s series, with 12.1 percent rating and 11.8 percent, respectively.

The unprecedented record has made Heart Evangelista, wife of Sorsogon Governor and former Senator Chiz Escudero, the newest queen of primetime television.

The show also solidified Heart’s footing not only as a topnotch social media influencer but a huge multi-media superstar.

It immediately got social media talking after its worldwide premiere, with very good feedback from both critics and televiewers. The hashtag #ILeftMyHeartInSorsogon was also among the trending topics on Philippine Twitter on Monday evening as fans raved with positive comments.

The show centers on a fashion socialite named Celeste (Heart) who returns to her hometown, rediscovers her roots, and rekindles her love for family, community, and an ex-flame.

With its success, the Escudero couple can both heave a sigh of relief. If you have been following Gov. Chiz on Twitter (@saychiz), you can read from his series of posts leading to the Nov. 15 premier that he was as excited (and obviously as nervous) as his wife. And why not?

Aside from the fact that it is Heart’s comeback serye after several years of not doing any teleserye, we can say that ILMHIS is also the debut of Sorsogon on Philippine television.

For Gov. Chiz, the success of his wife’s new series is equally the success of Sorsogon and his province mates. With the various scenic locations highlighted in the show, he is hoping that more people will hear about Sorsogon and appreciate what it has to offer in terms of tourist attractions.

International and local borders are opening up again due to the improving environment as a result of decreasing COVID-19 cases. Sooner than soon, people will start traveling extensively again.

And hopefully, the teleserye will put the province on the map of international and domestic tourism. Certainly, the arrival of more foreign and local tourists to the province will be good to the livelihood of Sorsoganons which has been hit hard by the pandemic.
