A total of 1,400 families Municipality of Sultan Dumalongdong, Lanao del Sur received cash assistance as part of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) as part of its Multipurpose Cash Grant (MPCG), the organization said on Thursday, Nov. 18.
PRC partnered with the Spanish Red Cross and the German Red Cross to distribute the cash assistance on Wednesday, Nov. 17, that was funded by the European Union.
PRC said that the event was arranged to reduce the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic and foster the public healthcare system and socioeconomic development of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Religion in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) The MPCG event was attended by European Union Ambassador Luc Veron, Chapter Administrator Atty. Sittie Adiong, head of the cooperation section Christoph Wagner, delegates from the Spanish and German Red Cross, PRC executives, and PRC Lanao del Sur Staff and Volunteers.
The PD-BARMM project in Lanao del Sur provided P3,500 MPCG to 1,400 families, P10,000 livelihood assistance to 800 families, skills training for youth employability to 100 individuals, community savings group to 10 groups, community livelihood management project to five associations, and volunteer recruitment and equipping for 800 individuals.
"Layunin ng Philippine Red Cross ay maabot ang mga malalayong lugar upang matulungan ang mga most vulnerable na nangangailangan (The PRC's goal is to reach far-flung areas and help the most vulnerable sectors)," PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon said.
"Sa pakikipagtulungan natin kasama ang ating partner national societies at ang European Union ay mabigyan natin pagasa ang ating Muslim brothers sa Sultan Dumalongdong (With the help of our partners from national societies and the European Union, we will give hope to our Muslim brothers in Sultdan Dumalongdong)," he added.
PRC said that it is committed to contributing to a peaceful, cohesive, secure, and inclusively-developed Mindanao.
