Paranaque City's senior citizens get early birthday and Christmas gifts


The Paranaque City government has started the distribution of birthday and Christmas gifts to about of 65,000 senior citizens from the city's 16 barangays on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

Mar Jimenez, Public Information Office chief, said senior citizens aged 60 to 70 years old will receive P1,000 cash as a birthday gift and Christmas gifts from the city government through GCash or face-to-face distribution.

He said senior citizens aged 75 to 84 years old will receive P2,000 while those 85 and above will receive P5,000.

The PIO chief also said the city government will immediately start the distribution of P5,000 social pension to more than 1,000 senior citizens chosen by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Jimenez said the more than 1,000 senior citizens are those who have not been receiving monthly social benefits from the Social Security System (SSS) and or the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

Mayor Edwin Olivarez, who witnessed the distribution of financial assistance to senior citizens, announced that booster shots for the elderly against COVID-19 will immediately start after the A1 category (health workers).

Olivarez said that based on the ordinance passed and approved by the City Council, senior citizens who have reached the age of 85 will receive P10,000 from the city government; P15,000 for those who are 90 years old, P25,000 for 95 years old, and P50,000 for centenarians.
