The Halalang Marangal 2022 has called on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to immediately act on the petition seeking to cancel the certificate of candidacy (COC) of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
In a statement, the group said the poll body should immediately resolve the case so as not to create confusion among the electorate.
"Halalang Marangal 2022 views with grave concern the recent events on the controversy of the candidacy of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as it creates bad precedent and a mockery on the election law, as well as the rule of law of the land," read the statemen signed by HM2022 chairman Fr. Antonio Labiao, Jr.
"In this regard, we call on the Comelec en banc to fast track the resolution of the petition so as not to create confusion among the electorate," it further read.
The Halalang Marangal 2022, also stressed that it will not side with any of the parties involved.
It then reminded the Comelec to resolve and operate within the bounds of the law.
"The sovereign will of the people should always take priority over political influence to ensure the common good of the country. We therefore expect Comelec to take priority on what is right and just for the country," the group said.
Earlier this month, several groups and personalities submitted a petition with the poll body seeking to cancel or deny the COC of Marcos Jr. over supposed "false material representation" stemming from a 1995 tax case.
The Comelec has already set the preliminary conference on the case on Nov. 26.
