Donnie Nietes to face Dominican foe in WBA super flyweight title eliminator

Four-division world boxing champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes will make a crucial comeback against Norbelto Jimenez of the Dominican Republic in a WBA super flyweight title eliminator at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates next month.

The winner is set to become a mandatory challenger for WBA titleholders Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico (super champion) and Joshua Franco of the United States (regular champion).

Interestingly, Nietes, who was recently signed by Probellum alongside WBC champion and compatriot Nonito Donaire, will return to Dubai since scoring a unanimous decision win against Colombian foe Pablo Carillo for the vacant WBO International super flyweight title in April.

The 39-year-old Negros Occidental native boxer currently has 43 wins, one loss, and five draws on top of 23 knockouts.

Nietes' bout is also part of Probellum's promotion for Filipino boxers John Riel Casimero, the reigning WBO bantamweight king, and flyweight contender Jayson Mama.

Casimero will defend his WBO belt against Paul Butler of the United Kingdom while Mama seeks to dethrone IBF flyweight titlist Sunny Edwards.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Jimenez, a former world title challenger, last saw action in December last year with a unanimous decision victory against Nicaraguan pugilist Marvin Solano to improve at 30-9 record with 16 KOs.
