The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has denied more than 120 applicants for partylist registration.
"126 applicants for Party List registration were denied by @comelec," Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said on Twitter on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
She added that more than 100 of denied Party List applicants filed Motion for Reconsideration.
"@Comelec must finish by Dec. 6 . Final date for ballot prep Dec. 15," said Guanzon.
The poll offical did not identify the said groups nor the reason why the applications were denied.
Last month, the Comelec released the list of registered or existing partylist groups.
Among the 118 registered partylist groups are ACT-CIS, Bayan Muna, Ako Bicol, Cibac, Gabriela, Buhay, Duterte Youth, OFW Family and Kabataan to mention a few.
Fifty-three new party-list groups were also granted registration by the Comelec for the May 2022 polls.
Under the Party-List System Law, any organized group of persons may register with the Comelec as a party, organization, or coalition for purposes of the party-list system.
