Kontra Daya has asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to declare placeholders as nuisance candidates.

The poll watchdog group issued the call as it denounced certain candidates' mockery of election rules, particularly the withdrawal and substitution for President and Vice President.
"The disastrous political spectacle these past few weeks could have been avoided if Comelec declared as nuisance candidates those who were clearly placeholders based on the public statements either by themselves or by the officials of political parties they represent," the group said in a statement on Monday, Nov. 15.
"They were, after all, never serious about their candidacies in the first place," added Kontra Daya.
The group said had Comelec decided swiftly and decisively, "substitution would not have been allowed, sparing the public from the political maneuverings of the rich and powerful."
"Since this is mainly an issue of propriety and not legality, Kontra Daya calls on the Comelec to redeem itself by unilaterally declaring these placeholders as nuisance candidates, effectively voiding the substitutions," Kontra Daya said.
