Duterte to run for senator in May 2022 polls

President Rodrigo Duterte is running for senator in the May 2022 polls.

His certificate of candidacy (COC) was filed by his representative Mechor Aranas before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Intramuros, Manila on Monday, Nov 15.

Many were surprised with the move as many thought he would run for vice president as what was earlier announced by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar.

Andanar made the announcement Saturday, Nov. 13 when Senator Christopher Lawrence Bong Go filed his COC for president.

Go substituted for Grepor Belgica, the standard bearer of Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).

Duterte substituted for Mona Liza Visorde of PDDS.

With his senate bid, there will be no Duterte vs Duterte showdown in next year's polls after all.

Presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte filed her COC for the second highest post in the land Saturday.
