3 public schools in Zambales postpone first day of pilot face-to-face classes --- DepEd
Three public schools in Zambales will not push through with the implementation of face-to-face classes on Monday, Nov. 15, the Department of Education (DepEd) said.

DepEd Assistant Secretary for Field Operations Malcolm Garma told the Manila Bulletin that some public schools located in Region III -- which were included in the 100 public schools identified by DepEd to hold pilot face-to-face classes -- will not reopen as scheduled.
“It’s not canceled but two schools requested that they open next week,” Garma said.
Initially, Garma identified Banawen Elementary School in San Felipe and San Marcelino National High School as those that have temporarily postponed their pilot face-to-face classes.
In a phone interview, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent of SDO Zambales Michelle Mejica said that there are three schools that did not push through with the first day of limited in-person classes including Baliwet Elementary School also located in San Marcelino.
Asked why the pilot face-to-face classes in these two schools were temporarily postponed, Garma said that “some teachers tested positive in antigen test prior to start of classes and awaiting for confirmatory test results.”
Garma was scheduled to visit Banawen ES to personally witness the first day of reintroduction of limited in-person classes after nearly two years since face-to-face classes were prohibited by the government due to the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
While pilot face-to-face classes were postponed in these two schools, Garma said that it will push through in eight schools as scheduled.
Mejica noted that while there were no teachers who tested positive in Banawen ES, they were required to take the COVID-19 test again for precautionary measures.
In Region III, there were 10 schools identified by DepEd and the Department of Health (DOH) to participate in the pilot run which include Burgos ES, Owaog-Nebloc ES, Moraza ES, Belbel ES, Maguisguis IS, Nacolcol IS, Palis IS, Baliwet ES, San Marcelino NHS, and Banawen ES.
