Zepeda remains undefeated, stops Moralde in four rounds

Mexican contender William Zepeda continued his winning ways and defended his WBA Continental Americas lightweight title after stunning Filipino boxer John Vincent Moralde in four rounds at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California Saturday night, Nov. 13 (Sunday in Manila).

Zepeda showed impressive power punching from all angles and weakened Moralde's defense throughout the match.

The Filipino boxer seemed to wait for the perfect time to launch his counterpunches as Zepeda unloaded multiple combinations and hefty body shots from the get-go.

It was until the one minute mark of the fourth round where referee Eddie Hernandez halted the match after Zepeda, who is being promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, came in rushing with the rapid blows and not letting Moralde return the favor.

Zepeda cornered Moralde against the ropes and assaulted the Filipino boxer with heavy blows to the head and body.

The Sanman Promotions bet, for his part, showed tenacity and tried to retaliate but was way too exhausted from the energy-draining punches of Zepeda.

In the third round, Zepeda, a 25-year-old southpaw, was like a bulldozer charging in and throwing solid body shots and combinations on Moralde to score as many points.

A frustrated Moralde, who could not seem to find his punching groove, received a warning from Hernandez when he shoved his head towards Zepeda in the waning seconds of the third frame

Zepeda remained undefeated in 24 matches on top of 22 knockouts while Moralde fell to a 24-5 card with 13 KOs.
