Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Lyceum University of the Philippines and Emilio Aguinaldo College all finished spotless in the group stage to secure a spot in the upper bracket playoffs of the Collegiate Center for Esports’ Invitational Mobile Legends Varsity Cup.
The Knights, Pirates and Generals emerged victorious in Day 4 of the eliminations to keep their unblemished 3-0 records heading to the MVC playoffs. Also joining the three in the upper bracket was Mapua University at the fourth spot which boasted a 2-1 win-loss card.
Letran capped the dominant run in the group stage with a 2-1 reverse sweep victory over San Sebastian College-Recoletos Stags in the first match of the triple-header on Saturday.
It was the Stags that drew first blood in the series and gave the Knights their first taste of defeat with a 24-12 domination in Game 1. Rafael Are dashed his way to an MVP honor with a near perfect 10-1-8 KDA on his Lancelot.
The Knights returned the favor with a 27-14 triumph in Game 2 with Jeo Ambohot disrupting the enemy line with his 9-2-8 performance on the Phoveus to force the winner-take-all Game 3.
Letran just continued to roll from that point as it took down San Sebastian in the decider, 26-16, with Ambohot once again leading the charge with a perfect 12-0-3 performance on the Paquito.
In the second game, Yancy Remulla and Shawn Umali took turns as the Knights thumped the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 2-0.
Remulla started off the onslaught with an efficient 10-0-10 stat line on his jungler Ling in the 26-10 win in Game 1. Umali then finished what Remulla has started as he boasted an equally impressive 10-1-3 KDA on his Guinivere in Game 2.
EAC managed to keep up with the tournament leaders with its own 2-0 sweep of College of St. Benilde Blazers in the third and final match of the day.
Kyle Carlos shone anew for the Generals with a masterful performance in the two-game stretch. Carlos wreaked havoc on his Lancelot in Game 1 with a 17-1-5 KDA before following it up with a 6-0-10 score line on the jungler Barats.
San Beda University Red Lions and the Heavy Bombers failed to advance to the double-elimination playoffs after win-less stint in three matches for the two squads.
Meanwhile, SSC-R and CSB together with Arellano University Chiefs and University of Perpetual Help -DALTA will be battling for survival in the lower bracket.
