Cezar confident of Thompson to carry the torch for World Balance

As a former ambassador of World Balance, PBA great Philip Cezar couldn't be happier knowing that Scottie Thompson followed his footsteps in representing the sports brand's image.

Before Thompson, Cezar, a member of the 25 Greatest PBA Players, used to show up in games rocking the brand's shoes from the 1980s until he retired in 1991.

Cezar, 69, is confident that World Balance made the right choice in selecting Thompson as its latest ambassador.

“Scottie, in a way stood for everything that Cezar did as an athlete were similar in so many ways," said Cezar. "Kahit na magkaiba kami ng position sa paglalaro, masaya ako para sa World Balance dahil nakakuha sila ng player na buo ang loob bukod sa masipag at madiskarte (Even if our play style and positions are different, I'm happy for World Balance for getting a player who is determined).

"Kaya para sa akin okay na siya napili to carry the torch for the brand and hopefully he can bring others along (For me, he's the best fit to carry the torch for the brand and hopefully he can bring others as well)."

That said, the former Crispa Redmanizer reminded Thompson that his ambassadorship is more than just the connections and the money he's earning.

For Cezar, just like what he did on his heydays, showed camaraderie and humbleness as a brand ambassador.

"Alam ko sa panahon ngayon halos lahat gusto ng endorsements. Lahat naman yan kikitain pero importante yun pakikisama sa lahat, hindi mababayaran ng pera yun (At this point, everybody wants endorsements of course. But the important thing is the camaraderie which cannot be bought by money)," said the 15-time PBA champion. "Kasi ganun ginawa ko noon, kaya naging close ako sa World Balance. Kahit na anong gawin ko sa paggawa ng sapatos, sa design, tinitignan naman nila kung pwede o hindi. Basta, importante marunong ka makisama at laging maging mapagkumbaba (That's what I did at my time. I became close with World Balance. What's important is for you to remain grounded)."

After several teasers, Thompson is set to drop his first signature shoe "Scottie 1" this month.

The shoe incorporates the Ginebra stalwart's humble beginnings and his journey in becoming one of the renowned PBA players today.
