The mandatory evacuation for overseas Filipinos in Ethiopia has been enforced due to the “continued and intensifying conflict in the country”.
This took effect after the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Thursday, Nov. 11, raised the alert level for Filipinos in the foreign country to alert level 4.
Alert level 4 is raised whenever there is a large-scale internal conflict or full-blown external attack in a foreign country where overseas Filipinos are staying.
The DFA said that under this alert level, the Philippine Government undertakes mandatory evacuation procedures.
Filipinos in countries where alert level 4 is in effect are advised to restrict non-essential movements, avoid public places, and immediately prepare for evacuation.
The agency is also advising all Filipinos not to travel to Ethiopia at this time due to the ongoing conflict in Tigray and neighboring regions.
Filipinos in Ethiopia who are in need of assistance may contact the Philippine Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, through telephone numbers (+202) 252-13062 or through its Facebook Page. They may also contact the Philippine Honorary Consul in Addis Ababa by email: [email protected] or by telephone: (+251) 118 648 752.
