The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Friday, Nov. 12, appealed for public understanding for the delays in the delivery of over 2 million national identification (ID) cards under the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

PSA Assistant Secretary Rosalinda P. Bautista, also the Deputy National Statistician of the PhilSys Registry Office, said the agency has so far released and turned over 5 million Philippine ID (PhilID) cards to the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost).

PHLPost has so far delivered 3.2 million PhilID cards nationwide.

"Right now, humihingi po kami ng inyong pag-unawa sa delay sa pag-deliver ng aming PhilSys (we ask for your understanding for the delays in the delivery of our PhilSys IDs)," Bautista said.

PhilSys is the central identification platform for Filipino citizens and resident aliens of the country.

"Nakarelease na po kami ng more than 5 million na ID na dispatched sa PHLPost. Pero nakita niyo naman ilan lang, 3 million, kalahati pa lang . Merong 3 million na nasa PHLPost pero ongoing ang delivery (We have already released more than 5 million IDs dispatched to PHLPost. But only half have been delivered. There are 3 million in PHLPost but delivery is ongoing," Bautista added.

PSA has partnered with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), for the PhilID card production and personalization, and PHLPost, for the management of door-to-door delivery of the cards.

Bautista noted that the BSP can produce around 70,000 to 80,000 national ID cards daily.

PSA has so far registered 41 million Filipinos into the PhilSys.
