PH Red Cross warns against delivery riders asking for blood processing fee

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) warned on Thursday, Nov.11 against delivery riders who are scamming users to pay for a "blood processing fee" through convenience stores.

In a statement, PRC explained that the scam occurs as a person books a delivery rider to pick up blood from the PRC Blood Center. The rider will then ask the person to transfer money to pay for the said fee through a convenience store.

Once the money has been transferred, the rider can no longer be contacted

PRC clarified that they do not require payment for the blood processing fee through any convenience stores and is strongly advised to go directly to PRC Blood Centers if there are requests and need for blood.

“Marami na ang nahihirapan dahil sa pandemya, huwag niyong samantalahin ang sitwasyon upang makapang loko ng tao (There are a lot who are having a hard time right now due to the pandemic, do not take advantage of the situation to trick people),” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Dick Gordon said.

PRC said that they have over 99 blood facilities as of October 2021, and that they provide 50 percent of blood needs in the country, making them the top provider of quality blood in the Philippines.

Gordon encouraged everyone, especially the youth to donate blood every three months, as the need for blood does not stop in this time of the pandemic.

Those interested to donate blood may contact the National Blood Center (PRC Tower) 37 EDSA corner Boni Avenue, Mandaluyong City and through telephone numbers (02) 790-2330; (02) 790-2382; (02) 790-2383 or the nearest PRC Chapter.
