PH Red Cross deploys team to Davao to assess diarrhea outbreak in penal colony

A three-man team was sent by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Davao Del Norte to assess the fatal diarrhea outbreak in the Davao Penal Colony, Panabo, Davao Del Norte, the organization said on Thursday, Nov. 11.

PRC said that the diarrhea outbreak has claimed two lives and has affected 100 individuals as of Nov. 10, Wednesday.
The PRC assessment team's deployment is in coordination with the City Government of Panabo and the administration of Davao Prison and Penal Farm, formerly known as the Davao Penal Colony.
PRC said that it will send its health services and Wash, Sanitation, and Hygiene team in the following days if needed.
"I have directed the local Red Cross Chapter in Davao del Norte to conduct assessment. No one gets left behind including our brothers and sisters who are incarcerated," PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon said.
"Kung kailangan magpadala ng health contingent, magpapadala tayo, walang pinipili ang Red Cross. Importante ang mabigyan sila ng tulong pangkalusugan at mapanatili ang kanilang dignidad (If we need to send a health contingent, we will deploy one since Red Cross does not choose who to help. It's important that we give provide them health assistance and to keep their dignity)," he added.
