PSC eyes bubble training restart for SEAG-bound athletes

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) plans to restart the national team’s bubble trainings by January 10, 2022 in preparation for the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.

Commissioner Mon Fernandez, who is also the country’s chief of mission to the meet, said the government sports agency is already processing various health protocols needed to submit to the Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the said closed-door training.

The development came after host Vietnam recently finalized the rescheduled date of the SEAG to May 12-23, 2022 in Hanoi, as well as the gradual easing of pandemic restrictions.

As of the moment, national athletes have six and a half months left before the biennial meet.

Fernandez also said the start of the bubble training will depend on the availability of the PSC facilities since the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and the Philsports Complex in Pasig are being used as health facilities during the pandemic.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has submitted 626 entries to compete in 39 of 40 sports as the country eyes to retain its overall title after winning 149 gold, 117 silver and 121 bronze medals at the 2019 edition held in Manila.
