Pasig City bans contact sports anew

Contact sports, except for outside parties with special permits to operate, are still prohibited in Pasig City, Mayor Vico Sotto announced on Wednesday, Nov. 10.

“BAWAL PO MUNA ANG CONTACT SPORTS (maliban kung may special permit, katulad ng PBA),” said Sotto in his Facebook post.

Earlier, the Pasig City government enacted Executive Order No. PCG-88 Series 2021 (EO PCG-88) in line with the Inter-Agency Task Force’s (IATF) resolution placing Metro Manila under Alert Level 2 on Nov. 5.

The EO lifted some restrictions in the city, including the playing of contact sports in both indoor and outdoor venues which acquired approval from the Office of the City Administrator.

The city government, however, changed its decision after holding a meeting with barangay officials.

“Nag-desisyon ako pagkatapos ng isang Consultation Meeting kasama ang mga Kapitan. Nakarating kami sa isang consensus na dapat huwag munang payagan ang contact sports (I made the decision after a consultation meeting with the captains. We came to a consensus that contact sports should be banned for now,” explained Sotto.

Pasig has called on its peace and order department as well as the Philippine National Police for assistance to enforce the ban.

“Kahit naman ako, gusto ko nang maglaro. Pero tiis-tiis muna... Baka maging dahilan pa ito ng isa pang surge (I also want to play, but let’s hold off for now... This might lead to another surge),” added Sotto.
