Navotas city gov't inks MOA providing scholarship for fisherfolk scholars

The Navotas City government signed a memorandum of agreement on Tuesday, to provide scholarship for students from fisherfolk families.

The Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship is given to family members of registered fisherfolks who won at the annual search for the Top Ten Most Outstanding Fisherfolk.

“Education is the best gift parents can give their children. We know that Navoteno fisherfolks also think that way and we are here to help them fulfill their aspirations for their children,” Mayor Toby Tiangco said.

“We hope to give the children and other family members of our registered fisherfolks the opportunity to finish their education, achieve their dreams, and create a better future,” he added.

A total of three college and four high school students qualified for the Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship under the Navotas Scholarship Program.

The scholars will be given P16,500 transportation and food allowance, and a P1,500 book stipend per academic year.

Scholars will need to maintain at least a passing grade and fulfill other undertakings.

The scholarship is renewable yearly, depending on the compliance of the beneficiary to the terms and conditions set by the city government.
