Masterpieces of National Artists and more go on sale at 'Under The Tree' auction

Salcedo Auctions brings the season’s best collection at a live and online auction

For its annual year-end sale, Salcedo Auctions is presenting the best Philippine art scene has to offer with its showcase of masterpieces by distinct National Artists at the “Under The Tree: The Wish List.”

Happening on Nov. 27, 2021, the auction is set to present a rich, diverse, and thoughtfully curated lineup including the works by National Artists BenCab, Fernando Amorsolo, Victorio Edades, J. Elizalde Navarro, Arturo Luz, and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, together with key pieces by leading modernists Romulo Olazo, Juvenal Sansó, Romeo Tabuena, Lao Lianben, and Nena Saguil.

Major highlights include Edades’ ravishing 1930s oil on canvas painting of an unidentified young lady, are a large and elegant monochromatic BenCab acrylic on canvas painting depicting two of the master's iconic Sabel muses, and a rare 1961 Barcelona period work by Alcuaz titled “Night in Marantz,” a surrealist landscape that shows the strong influence of his Spanish abstractionist contemporaries Saura and Tapies. As in all major sales of Philippine collectibles, exquisitely crafted antique hardwood furniture and ecclesiastical pieces are on offer, such as a pair of 19th century Ilocos four-post comodas, an 18th-century pair of molave altar/retablo columns, as well as an imposing retablo minór. “Under the Tree: The Watch List” takes place on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, simultaneously at 2 p.m. live at Salcedo's NEX Tower sale room and online via salcedoauctions.com. An online auction by the auction house’s subsidiary Gavel&Block titled “Holiday” featuring a wide selection of decorative art and furniture, as well as ephemera and collectibles will also take place on the same day starting at 11 a.m.
