Marcos tops broadsheet poll

Presidential aspirant and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is continuing to gain the support of the voters despite the barrage of attacks from political rivals according to one of his party officials on Wednesday, November 10.

"Despite being viciously and maliciously attacked by various anti-Marcos forces, Bongbong is still winning the heart of the voting population,” said PFP secretary-general Thompson Lantion.

Lantion cited the latest presidential preference poll made by Manila Times, which showed the former lawmaker getting a 68-percent share of the survey respondents’ choice.

The remaining votes went to Vice-President Leni Robredo (10.8 percent), Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno (7.9), Sen. Manny Pacquiao (7.2), Sen. Panfilo "Ping" Lacson (2.5) and Sen. Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa (1.5).

The survey, which was conducted between October 26 and November 2 by one of the oldest broadsheets in the country, polled 1,500 registered voters all over the country with the question: If the elections were held today, who will you vote for president? The said voting survey reportedly used a combination of face-to-face and assisted phone interviews which was made when detractors of the former senator were brought up anew the “Oxford diploma” controversy.

“The harder they pushed on with their hate-based innuendos against Bongbong, the bigger their numbers fell in the survey as shown by the big margin of the ratings between BBM and all his opponents,” Lantion, a former Philippine National Police (PNP) police community relations director said.

“It is the authentic Filipino culture for the underdog that keeps Bongbong’s survey number to shoot up and lead the pack of the 2022 presidentiables.” The former Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chairman added that this scenario happens when the aggressors’ narratives against the intended victim are packed with lies instead of sound arguments and if their victim restrains himself from fighting back and remains humbled by his innocence and faith for unity.

“Despite being on the receiving end of the unfounded invectives, Bongbong remained humble and calm and stayed focused on his campaign for a unifying presidency should he win in next year’s election. That way, the voting population is endeared to him,” Lantion said. (Melvin Sarangay)
