By Chito Chavez
The performance ratings of the provinces, cities and towns all over the country on coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccination will be published next week as the government prepares for the “National Vaccination Day’’ said Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año.
The “National Vaccination Day’’ on Nov. 29, 30, and Dec. 1 complements the concerted efforts of the government agencies to ramp up the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) inoculation with the goal of injecting vaccine doses to 1 to 1.5 million individuals daily.
However, it was not mentioned the specific dates and what media entities will the local government units’ (LGUs’) COVID-19 vaccination performance ratings be published.
In the second part of the briefing with the President aired the following day, Año noted that the DILG, Department of Health (DOH), National Task Force (NTF) COVID-19 and the mayors and governors met on Nov. 5 where issues were discussed to increase the public’s vaccine trust.
Año pointed out that DILG directives were issued to the LGUs as the government scampers and faces a huge challenge of attaining herd immunity by the end of the year with still some vaccine hesitancy concerns.
In the said DILG directive, the LGUs must regularly coordinate with regional vaccination operations center (RVOC), promptly submit the required vaccination reportorial requirements, continue strategies in ramping up vaccination operations, educate people on benefits of being vaccinated regardless of brand and prevent vaccine spoilage by ensuring proper handling and storage.
Similar actions were directed by the DILG to its regional directors and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Ministry of Interior and Local Government (MILG).
The DILG chief in the said meeting gave special mention to the local chief executives (LCEs) for their commitment to double their efforts in their vast vaccine advocacy campaigns, approve ordinances that will provide incentives to fully vaccinated people in social and economic activities.
He also highlighted the best practices of the LGUs willingness to help other provinces, cities, and towns with insufficient manpower and logistics enhance and speed up their vaccination programs.
In the vaccination against COVID 19 for uniformed personnel in the “tri-bureau’’, Año disclosed that 74.53 of the Philippine National Police (PNP) officers got their full vaccination as of Nov. 9.
As of Nov. 8, 76.05 percent of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) men were fully vaccinated while 81.08 percent of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) got their full doses as of Nov. 7.
Meanwhile, Año said the alert level system focuses on granular lockdowns adding that out of 46 cities, towns and 272 barangays only 413 areas are under the restriction that affects 7,000 households and 29,815 individuals.
With the relaxed restrictions particularly in Metro Manila, there was a rise in recorded health protocol violations from Oct. 31 to Nov. 6.
The number included 47,096 individuals warned for not wearing face masks, 907 for mass gathering infractions and 28,572 for physical distancing miscues.
There were also 16,892 persons fined for not wearing face masks, 17 and 4,909 for mass gathering and physical distancing violations respectively. (Chito A. Chavez)
