Bong Go rejects rumors he is withdrawing VP bid

Vice presidential aspirant Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has dispelled rumors that certain developments have affected his political plans.

The PDP-Laban vice presidential nominee denied he is clearing the way for another candidate to run in the May 2022 elections.

As far as he is concerned, Go said he is determined to run for vice president in the upcoming elections under the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban (PDP-Laban).

“Alam n’yo ang problema dito... kandidato na po ako ng exactly 39 days.... Ayaw nilang maniwala na kandidato ako as vice president (That’s the problem here...I’m already a candidate exactly 39 days, they do not want to believe that I am a candidate for vice president),” said Go in an ambush interview in Antipolo City in Rizal on Tuesday, November 9.

“May partido po ako, kami po ‘yung dominant party ‘yung PDP. At ako po’y kandidato as a vice president...So, bakit ayaw n’yong maniwala na kandidato na ako as (I have a party and that is the dominant party, the PDP. I am a candidate as vice president...so why don’t you believe that I am a candidate for) vice president?” he added.

Go assured he is a hundred percent sure he would be running as VP in next year’s polls and clarified he has no control over other personalities who also wish to run, due to the existing rule on the substitution of candidates.

“We don’t know if there are still others who want to run or substitute,” Go said.

“Ako, kandidato po ako, senador po ako, halal po ako ng higit 20,600,000 Filipinos. Hindi po laro itong pulitika. Kailangan bigyan po natin ng konsiderasyon ang taumbayan na naghalal sa iyo. Kapag kandidato ka na, totohanin mo ‘yun. Gampanan mo ang iyong tungkulin (I am a candidate, I’m a senator. I was elected by more than 20,600,000 Filipinos. Politics is not a game. We need to consider the people who chose you. Once you are a candidate, you have to take it seriously, you need to do your part),” he added.

Go earlier hinted there would be changes in his vice presidential bid after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced she has withdrawn her certificate of candidacy (COC) for mayor.

Speculations arose that the President’s daughter will finally seek a national post in the upcoming 2022 elections before the Nov. 15 deadline on the substitution for candidates, despite her recent denials.

Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa,, PDP-Laban’s presidential candidate, has also repeatedly broached the idea he would willingly back off the presidential race should the Davao City mayor decides to run for president.
