91 petitions to cancel COC received by Comelec

A total of 91 petitions have so far been received by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) seeking to cancel certificates of candidacy (COC) for the May 2022 polls.

"There are a lot...For national level alone, 91 petitions for cancellation have been filed so far," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in an online press breifing Wednesday, Nov. 10.

"The dockets of the division are full because you are also looking at other cases not just cancellation," he added.

Last week, several groups and personalities submitted a petition with the poll body seeking to cancel or deny the COC of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. over supposed "false material representation" stemming from a 1995 tax case.

On Monday, Nov. 8, a petition-in-intervention was also filed before the Comelec seeking to supplement the earlier petition to cancel the COC of Marcos Jr.
