2 brothers, cohort involved in QC robbery nabbed in Tondo hospital

Two brothers and their cohort who allegedly robbed a convenience store in Cubao, Quezon City were arrested by police in a hospital in Tondo, Manila on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

Police Lt. Col. Elizabeth Jasmin, commander of Cubao Police Station 7 (PS 7), identified the suspects as Rodolfo Rivera, 22; his brother, Rolando Rivera, 18; and Jomari Salonga, 18, all residents of Tondo.

Joint forces of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and Manila Police District (MPD) launched the operation against the robbers after receiving a tip from the Tondo Medical Center, where two of the suspects were admitted for treatment of gunshot wounds.

According to the QCPD, the suspects entered a convenience store in Brgy. Valencia, Cubao at around 4:00 a.m. and, at gunpoint, took 150,000 worth of cash, a cell phone, and a WiFi modem from the employees.

Rivera and his group also pointed a handgun at the security guard of the store, but the latter managed to draw his own gun and shot them.

The guard wounded two of the robbers who immediately fled using a black motorcycle.

Operatives from the MPD coordinated with QCPD’s PS 7 after they received a report from the Tondo Medical Center regarding two patients with gunshot wounds.

They arrested the suspects in the hospital after they were identified by the witnesses.

The QCPD said the group was also involved in another robbery hold-up incident in Brgy. South Triangle, Quezon City on Nov.4.

The suspects will be charged with robbery before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office, the police said.
