'Venom: Let There Be Carnage,' 'No Time to Die,' 'Dune' top monthly box office in Korea

American films dominated the monthly box office in South Korea in October, according to numbers from the Korean Film Council (KOFIC).

In the 10 top-grossing films in Korea in October, six were from the US, two from South Korea and two from Japan.

The superhero movie “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” featuring Marvel Comics’ Venom, became the No. 1 film in South Korea in October. The film stars Tom Hardy, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris and Reid Scott.

It sold 1,974,642 tickets and grossed $16,692,151 with a revenue share of 38.54 percent for the month. To date, “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” is the No. 8 top-grossing film in Korea this year.

The second top-grossing film in South Korea in October is the James Bond film “No Time To Die” starring Daniel Craig, Rami Malek, Léa Seydoux and Lashana Lynch.

“No Time To Die,” released on Sept. 29 in South Korea, garnered total admissions of 1,038,276 and grossed $8,883,300 in October for a revenue share of 20.51 percent. To date, the movie has sold 1.21 million tickets and earned $10.15 million at the box office.

The US film “Dune,” starring Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson, placed third in October, selling 762,513 tickets and grossing $6,869,210 at the Korean box office.

The Korean film “On the Line,” starring Byun Yo-han, Kim Mu-yeol and Park Myung-hoon, placed fourth with 381,412 tickets sold and gross of $3,199,529 in October. Since its release on Sept. 15, the movie has sold 1.41 million tickets and earned $11.83 million at the Korean box office.

In fifth place is the Korean movie “Miracle: Letters to the President” starring Park Jeong-min, Yoona and Lee Sung-min. In October, the film had 205,378 in total admissions and gross of $1,616,814. Since its release in Korea on Sept. 15, the movie has sold 692,994 tickets and grossed $5.52 million.
