Magnolia run consistent but still not enough, admits Victolero

Magnolia coach Chito Victolero believes that his wards did a decent and consistent run in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup but only fell short in the endgame against the TNT Tropang Giga.

"Ako naman (on my end), I'm always positive. Maybe it's not our time pa. Hopefully, next time," said Victolero in an article posted by the PBA. "Kumbaga consistent 'yong team namin. We're fighting every time (for the championship). Hindi lang kami maka-get over the hump."

Victolero, who became a champion coach in the 2018 Governor's Cup, still lauded the players for their consistency especially this season.

Against TNT, the Hotshots had their third shot in the Philippine Cup Finals in the last four seasons.

Aside from veterans Paul Lee, Ian Sangalang, and Mark Barroca, the addition of energizer bunny Calvin Abueva, who eventually won the Best Player of the Conference honor, became a game-changer for Magnolia.

"But we'll keep on trying. Hindi kami magsasawa dun (We won't stop)," said the 45-year-old Victolero. "The main goal talaga (really) is to win the championship."

Magnolia, under the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers banner, last won its Philippine Cup title in the 2013-14 season which concluded in a rare grand slam feat led by James Yap, Marc Pingris, and Barroca.
