A former adviser of President Obama and actor Kal Penn has come out as gay, saying he's getting married to his long-time boyfriend.
Penn made the revelation in an exclusive interview with People Magazine, ahead of the release of his new tell-all memoir titled "You Can't Be Serious."
The star of "Harold and Kumar" movies said that he is engaged to his partner, Josh, multiple reports in the US said.

Penn said: "I shared things with my parents and close friends first. I know this sounds jokey, but it's true: When you've already told your Indian parents and the South Asian community that you intend to be an actor for a living, really any conversations that come after that are super easy."
"They're just like, 'Yeah, okay.' ... That's a wonderful thing. I know everybody has different experiences with that, and so I definitely feel very fortunate."
On his wedding plans, Penn said he wanted a big wedding. But his partner said he wanted a quickie ceremony with their families.

Penn also appeared in "How I Met Your Mother" and "The Big Bang Theory."
In 2009, Penn served in the Obama administration as part of the White House Office of Public Liaison that deals with Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and the arts community.
