ILOILO CITY — For the first 10 months of the year, crime volume in Western Visayas region has dropped by 20 percent.
Based on Police Regional Office (PRO-6) data, a total of 14, 022 criminal incidents were recorded in Western Visayas region from January-October 2021.
This translated to a decrease of 3,512 crime incidents recorded for the same period of last year when there were 17, 534 criminal incidents.
“All units must continue performing satisfactorily in the maintenance of peace and order throughout the region,” said Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda, the outgoing top cop of the region.
In terms of areas, the regional capital of Iloilo City registered the highest decrease in crime incidents with 42.07 percent. It is followed by Aklan province with a decrease of 17.9 percent and the island province of Guimaras with a decrease of 17.48 percent.
There were also significant drop in criminal incidents in Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized city of Bacolod.
In terms of focus crimes, PRO-6 found there was a 9.72 percent drop in the eight focus crimes. There were only 2,136 cases of murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, rape, carnapping of motor vehicle and motorcycle. In comparison, there were 2,366 cases last year.
