ILOILO CITY — The construction of an affordable housing project intended for low-income employees of the Iloilo City government has started.
This was after the P217-million housing project to be developed by SM Development Corp. (SMDC)
recently broke ground at a 16.2-hectare site owned by the Iloilo City government in Jaro district.
“We thank SM for being a dynamic partner for progress and building a better future for the Ilonggos," said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Dubbed as the Uswag Residential Building, the housing project will be a condo-type structure that will have 120 units.
According to the mayor, potential City Hall employees can avail once they are screened by the Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO).
Based on guidelines, only Iloilo City Hall employees that do not own any real estate property can become a beneficiary.
Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Settlement lauded the project as a good example of public-private partnership (PPP) between SMDC and the Iloilo City government.
Also present during the November 4 groundbreaking were SMDC president Jose Mari Banzon, Iloilo City Congresswoman Julienne Baronda and Iloilo City Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon.
